Application deadlines
Application deadlines
Deadlines depend on the university, province and programme. Applications are usually open from September to April, and many universities operate on a rolling admissions basis. This means that the sooner you submit a complete application, the sooner you may receive a decision.
Important information
You apply directly through university systems or centralised portals, e.g. OUAC for universities in Ontario. The application fee is usually approx. 100-180 EUR. Once admitted, you receive a conditional or unconditional offer, which you must accept.
How to get admitted?
For bachelor’s degree programmes, grades, transcripts, required subjects and language proficiency are taken into account. For a master’s degree, you need a bachelor’s degree, academic transcript, a relevant academic background, and often also a CV, personal statement, references, portfolio or interview.
Required documents
You will usually need a secondary school diploma or bachelor’s degree certificate, academic transcript, language certificate, personal statement and references. Documents must usually be prepared in English or translated.
Language requirements
Canadian universities most commonly accept IELTS Academic, TOEFL iBT or Cambridge. Typical minimum scores are IELTS 6.0-6.5, but the threshold may be higher for more demanding degree programmes. Requirements always depend on the university and programme.
Study permit
After receiving an offer from a university, you apply for a study permit. You need a letter of acceptance, a valid passport, proof of financial support and sometimes a medical examination or police clearance certificate.
