The cost of living in Austria is moderate by Western European standards, even though many people assume it is a very expensive country. Vienna is the most expensive city, but in other locations, living costs can start from as little as 850€ per month.

Application deadlines
For most undergraduate programmes, you apply from April until the end of August. For some universities and degree programmes, submitting your application earlier may increase your chances, so it is worth acting in advance. For some master’s programmes, deadlines may be earlier - even in January.
Important information
Firstly, for undergraduate studies, your secondary school-leaving exam results have practically no impact on the success of your application for almost any degree programme. Secondly, there is no application limit - you can apply to any number of degree programmes and universities. The process takes place directly through the universities.
How to get in?
When applying for an undergraduate degree, the key factors are most often your CV, motivation letter, interview, and sometimes entrance tests. Grades are also taken into account occasionally. For a master’s degree, you need a bachelor’s degree diploma and transcript of grades, and in addition, your CV, letter, essay, or admissions interview are often considered.
Language requirements
For programmes in English, IELTS, TOEFL, or a Cambridge certificate is most often required, and the expected level is B2 or C1. Importantly, there are degree programmes where submitting a certificate is not required (you can apply without one).
Studying in German and without a certificate
For German-taught programmes, a B2/C1 level is usually required, confirmed by certificates such as ÖSD, TestDaF, or Goethe-Zertifikat. Importantly, some universities offer degree programmes without a mandatory language certificate.
