Cost of studies and scholarships
Tuition
At public universities, you pay approx. €1194 per year. This is a fixed fee for EU students and one of the lowest in Western Europe.

The average cost of living is approx. €800-1200 per month. Compared to the Netherlands, you can realistically save up to several hundred euros per month.

Application deadlines
Belgium has relatively late application deadlines. At traditional universities, the deadline is usually 1 July, although selected degree programs may close admissions earlier. At universities of applied sciences, applications are usually open until 31 August (occasionally until 1 July).
Important information
There is no limit on applications - you can apply to any number of degree programs and universities. In Belgium, there is a distinction between research universities and universities of applied sciences, so it is worth choosing the type of university carefully to match your profile, plans and learning style.
How to get accepted?
For admission to studies in Belgium, grades rarely matter, and school-leaving exams are practically never assessed. However, your CV, motivation letter, references, portfolio or interview may have a significant impact. For master’s studies, grades from your previous studies may be assessed - and the additional documents are usually the same as for a bachelor’s degree.
Language requirements
Belgian universities most often accept IELTS Academic, TOEFL iBT, Cambridge or the Duolingo English Test. The typical minimum requirement is IELTS 6.0, TOEFL approx. 80 points, Cambridge C1 Advanced/C2 or Duolingo approx. 105 points. A certificate is usually required. One advantage is the Duolingo test option, which is several times cheaper than other exams.
